This HO scale model train layout faithfully recreates the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, envisioning a parallel universe where the historic railroad persevered into the present day. Through meticulous craftsmanship, we explore hypothetical scenarios—what if a “Modern” Rio Grande had not merged with the Union Pacific in 1988? The themes and concepts woven into this layout reflect an alternative evolution of the D&RGW, adapting to modern rail transportation trends while retaining its timeless charm.
Layout Concept At A Glance
A prototype-based freelance representation of the Rio Grande operating between Pueblo, Colorado and points west over Tennessee Pass. The time frame is set to the late spring of 2022 where trains can still frequently be seen slugging their way over the 2.5% grade between Minturn and the summit.
